The Transition Game
We all go through critical transitional periods in our lives, whether it be something big such as going from middle school to high school or something small such as changing up your daily workout routine. Although these periods of change can be overwhelming and full of stress and setbacks, there are proven steps you can follow that help you ease into everything. The most important thing to always have is a sound and healthy mind, so emphasizing your self-care routine is a crucial step for having the strength to push forward throughout the upcoming period. Our bodies don't deal well with change, so finding a constant in your schedule can be refreshing. Whether it be going for a walk, listening to a podcast, or spending some time by the pool, there are tons of ways for you to put your mind to rest and recharge your batteries briefly. This helps you deal with the stress and anxiety that can stop you from having an optimistic perception of what's to come. It is also essential that you let go of all that you're leaving behind and embrace all of the possibilities and opportunities that can present themselves from this transition. To capitalize on these opportunities, it is beneficial that you know what you are getting yourself into. Knowledge is power, so it doesn't hurt to read a couple of articles or watch a YouTube video or two about people who have succeeded in the route you are about to take. Setting goals and planning ahead is another crucial step that you can take to have a successful transition. Long-term goals that you can look towards when you're struggling or facing setbacks are important but also try setting smaller bite-sized goals that you can continuously accomplish. Those small victories matter! Having these little checkpoints will also allow you to take a step back in the future and reflect on whether or not you are going in the right direction. Going through periods of large amounts of change can be difficult, so it is always a good idea to start building a community of people to support you. It's best if you can find people who can directly relate to what you are going through, but if not, just a good friend who you know will have your back is life-changing. You are bound to have tougher days than others and moments where your resilience is at a low, and this community can build you up. For this week's #MakeItHappen, think about what important transition periods are coming up for you. Instead of mentally putting it aside, think of how you can prepare for what's to come.
